Physical Education and Health

The Physical Education Department focuses on the development of healthy lifestyles, cardiovascular fitness, motor skills and movement knowledge, and social and personal skills. Through skill development and the ability to get along with others in movement environments, we believe that students will seek out and enjoy physical activity, thus enabling them to maintain physical fitness throughout their lifetime.

Education in Sexual Health during adolescence is an important aspect of student's self awareness, confidence, and decision making. Sex Education is taught for ten weeks each school year by a certificated teacher guided by the curriculum materials from Positive Prevention PLUS for middle school and upper elementary for 8th and 7th grade respectively.  Health is taught in Fall for 8th grade and in Spring for 7th grade.

Positive Prevention PLUS curriculum materials are evidence-based instruction in Comprehensive Sexual Health Education and Teen Pregnancy Prevention. All materials are aligned with National Health Education Standards (NHES), and in full compliance with California Education Code including California Healthy Youth Act (CHYA).
